Rader Bridge

The replacement of the Rader Bridge is contributing to the modernisation of transport infrastructure and is of particular importance in terms of facilitating connection between the north and other areas. The bridge spans an impressive 1,500 metres across the Kiel Canal and is being gradually replaced by a new structure. The impressive construction project is being built using, among other things, heavy plates from Ilsenburg. As one of several steel suppliers, we are providing several thousand tons of high-quality plate for this prestigious project. These components are being integrated into substantial steel structures, which are then assembled on site.

36 “Greener Tower” for the “THOR” offshore wind farm

Denmark's largest wind farm to date, THOR, is being constructed in the North Sea. The project will consist of 72 wind towers and will be capable of supplying electricity to more than one million Danish households. Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech GmbH, together with Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH, supplied 25,000 tons for the construction of 36 emission-reduced wind towers for the Siemens Gamesa project. The "Greener Tower" is notable for its low CO₂eq emissions of less than 700 kg per ton of steel, representing a significant advancement in the industry. The majority of the 18 to 24-metre-long heavy plates were produced at the Mülheim rolling mill. The raw material was produced with low CO₂ emissions using scrap-based electric steel.

Rio–Andirrío Bridge

This suspension bridge was named after former Greek Prime Minister Harilaos Trikoupis. It connects the western Greek mainland at Patras with the Peloponnese peninsula. The bridge measures 2,880 metres in length, making it one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the world. Instead of the previous 40-minute ferry transfer time, the crossing takes just five minutes. The structure's location has been specifically chosen to ensure it can withstand earthquakes measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale.

Approximately 9,000 tons of sheet metal from Ilsenburg were utilised in the construction of the suspension bridge.

New SC Freiburg Stadium

To realise the facade construction that dominates the design, Mannesmann Line Pipe supplied around 530 tons of HFI-welded steel pipes. These play an important role in structural stability and are certainly the decisive design element in the external appearance of the new stadium.

"The key factor in our success was our unbeatable lengths of 18 meters, which eliminate the need to cut the visually dominant facade supports," says Thomas Reinhardt, who oversaw the project on behalf of Mannesmann Line Pipe in collaboration with Bernd Hollaender from the pipe dealer ProPipe in Willich.

The pipes, manufactured in S355J2H steel grade, were produced in dimensions of 406.4 × 20.0 mm in 18-metre lengths and 406.4 × 25.0 mm in 10.7-metre lengths, in accordance with the manufacturing standard EN 10210. Delivery of the items was completed to Stahl- und Anlagenbau Schädlich GmbH in Stützengrün as requested.

New bus station in Katowice (Poland)

As part of the implementation of the "Katowice 2030" urban development strategy, adopted in 2015, the city administration has defined investments of strategic importance. The primary focus of these initiatives is on four key areas: quality of life, urban planning, economic development, and transportation and logistics.

Construction commenced in 2018 and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019. Mannesmann Line Pipe supplied approximately 300 tons of HFI-welded steel pipes for the unique roof construction via Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlhandel Sp. z o.o. in Słupca.

Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm

The construction of the Beatrice wind farm is scheduled to be completed in Moray Firth by 2019. The project will see 84 offshore wind turbines erected 13.5 km off the coast, with an expected generation of 588 MW of electricity from renewable energy sources. This corresponds to the electricity needs of up to 450,000 households.

The contract to manufacture the 84 jacket foundation structures was divided up by Seaway Heavy Lifting. Thirty will be manufactured by Bladt Industries at the Lindoe Industrial Park in Denmark. Smulders Projects was awarded 28 jacket structures, with the remaining 26 to be manufactured by BiFab at its facilities in Burntisland, Methil, and Arnish. The foundations are up to 71 m high and weigh up to 830 tons. The installation covers an area of 131 km² with water depths of up to 58 metres.

New construction of Halls C5 and C6 at Munich Trade Fair Center

The Munich Trade Fair Center has recently undergone extension with construction of two new exhibition halls, C5 and C6, which include a discerning architecture. With the construction of Halls C5 and C6 and the Conference Center North now complete, the covered exhibition area is set to grow to 200,000 m² by 2018.

For the first time, Salzgitter Mannesmann Line Pipe supplied the sophisticated roof construction for the new halls. While the original steel structure was constructed using seamless pipes, HFI-welded pipes from Hamm and Siegen are now also being utilised.

Grand Egyptian Museum Kairo

One of the most significant technical challenges is undoubtedly the façade. The structure consists of MSH profiles that hold large, translucent stone panels. The ornamental appearance is created by dividing the 30-metre-high triangles according to Sierpinski's system. The process entails the division of the total area of the equilateral triangle into four smaller triangles. The central area is left empty, and the division system is repeated in the three outer triangles. The areas become progressively smaller, ensuring that the larger original pattern is also reflected in the smallest areas.

Liverpool Bay CSS project

Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech GmbH is involved in the construction of the largest carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in Europe at the moment. The Liverpool Bay pipeline network, located in northwestern England, will facilitate the transportation of CO₂ for permanent storage in depleted gas fields in the Irish Sea. In addition to the repurposing of an offshore platform and 150 km of onshore and offshore pipelines, the project also includes 36 km of new pipelines to connect industrial sites to the CCS network. The requirements for CO₂ pipelines are particularly demanding. It is imperative that they are highly pressure-resistant and guarantee maximum safety against leaks. All bends for this project are produced in Mülheim, and the heavy plates for the mother pipe were manufactured by our heavy plate rolling mill.

Scarborough Gas Field

The Scarborough gas resource is located offshore in the Carnarvon Basin, Western Australia. A 433 km long pipeline connects the offshore facility at the gas field with liquefied natural gas plants on the Burrup Peninsula. The Scarborough Energy Project is on track to produce up to 8 million tons of LNG per year, with the potential to contribute up to 225 terajoules per day to the domestic gas supply in the Western Australian market.

Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech GmbH manufactured 150,000 tons of heavy plate for large pipes, which were installed at depths of up to 1,400 metres and meet the highest material requirements.
